THE DIRECT ANSWER

Bring the official transcript, the diploma, any provincial certification, and a support letter that names the supervising engineer and describes the support relationship. Add a short organization chart showing where the role sits. The officer needs evidence of the relationship, not just a statement that it exists.

Documents that show the relationship, not just the job

The support letter should state the listed profession by name, the discipline of the applicant's training, the duties in the United States, the identity and credentials of the professional the applicant supports, the duration of the engagement and the compensation. Attach the transcript and diploma; if the diploma is in a program with an unusual name, a course list or program description from the college helps the officer match it to the discipline. Provincial technologist certification is useful supporting evidence but should not be presented as a licence to practise engineering.

Include a one-page chart of the distributor's technical department showing the engineer and the technologist positions. Keep the applicant's résumé short and consistent with the letter; inconsistent dates or titles between the résumé and the employer's description invite questions that the letter was written to avoid.
